Commemorations of the first and second world wars | |||
| This
website displays relevant dates and information on ceremonies commemorating events
or persons involved in two World Wars. The site is meant to kindle the flame of remembrance by giving the opportunity either to attend such ceremonies or to reflect on the suffering and sacrifices sustained by so many soldiers and civilians for our freedom. This website was initiated on 5th May, 2002, by Jean-Pierre Schellekens, Lieutenant-Colonel of the Belgian Air Force Reserve, Chairman of the Belgian National Remembrance Committee. It is dedicated to his parents, Pierre and Martha Schellekens, who founded and managed an escape line for aircrew from 1940 till 1944 and were therefore honoured with the Dutch Cross of Commemoration of the Resistance ("Verzetsherdenkingskruis" or "VHK"). This website is maintained in activity by the Belgian National Remembrance Committee. The objectives of this Comittee are threefold:
This first edition begins with Western Europe (Belgium, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden). Further countries will be added later on. Changes might occur in this website: please always check. Latest update: March 15th, 2008. Webmaster: Bertrand Gaiffe, Le Valdahon (France).
